“I’m getting Greenland. Yeah, 100%,” Trump said.
President Donald Trump said on March 29 that he had a real debate “absolutely” about annexing Greenland’s semi-rotating Danish territory.
Trump’s comments came the day after Vice President J.D. Vance visited the island with his wife Usha and spoke with service members of the Pituffik Space Base, a US Space Force base on Greenland’s northwest coast.
“Our message to Denmark is very simple. We’re not doing a good job from the people of Greenland,” Vance said during the trip.
NBC asked Trump about a statement that Greenland would annexate with Russia and other countries around the world.
“I’m not really thinking about it. I really don’t care. Greenland is a very different theme and very different. It’s international peace. It’s international security and strength,” he replied.
“You have ships that sail from Russia, from China, and from China, and from many other places outside of Greenland. And we are not going to allow anything to hurt the world or the United States,” Trump added.

On Saturday, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Rocke Rasmussen scolded the Trump administration’s “tone” in criticism of Denmark and Greenland. He said Denmark is currently investing more in Arctic security and is ready for more cooperation with the US.
Rasmussen commented in a video posted on social media after Vance visited the Arctic Island.
“There have been a lot of charges and a lot of allegations, and of course we are open to criticism,” Rasmussen said. “But I’m totally honest. We’re not grateful for the tone it’s being delivered. This is not the way you talk to your close allies. And I still think Denmark and the US are close ally.”
Greenland remains the territory of Denmark, a key NATO ally of the United States. Trump has been seeking annexation of the island for months, claiming that America needs it for national security. In January, House Republicans also sought support for drafting a bill to buy Greenland.
The territory is rich in mineral resources, including rare earth sediments in southern Gardar Province. The territory is believed to have graphite and graphite schist, copper, nickel, zinc, gold, diamond, iron ore, titanium vanadium, tungsten, uranium, and other important resources.
