According to the White House, the encounter in March represents a sharp decline from the same month under the Biden administration.
The number of people illegally crossed the US-Mexico border in March fell to the lowest ever recorded, the Trump administration said on April 1.
According to the White House, the March figures correspond to an intersection of 1,145 people than February, representing a dramatic decline from the same month.
It also marks a 95% decrease from 2024 when there were 137,473 encounters. This is a 96% decrease from 2023 when 163,672 encounters were recorded. It also fell 97% since 2022, when agents encountered 211,181 illegal immigrants at the border.
“I started in 1984 as a border patrol agent 41 years ago. I can’t remember that numbers have been that low since. That’s far from the over 11,000 a day I’ve seen for a certain period of time under Biden,” Homan said.
“Border Patrol men and women are proof of what they can accomplish when they are allowed to do their job and complete the agency’s mission.”
Trump also said that under President Joe Biden, there were 300,000 illegal border crossers in a month, and that “virtually everything was released to our country.”
“Thanks to the Trump administration’s policies, borders are closed to all illegal immigrants. Anyone who attempts to enter the United States illegally will face serious criminal penalties and immediate deportation,” Trump said.
CBP’s monthly executive statistics date back to 2000. Before the March figures, the lowest level encounter recorded in a month was in April 2017, arresting 11,127 at the start of Trump’s first term.
