Researchers at Holafly, a company that offers “ESIM” (embedded SIM) cards for international travel, have identified which US tourists have the slowest mobile internet speeds. So you can plan your trip in advance.
The company cross-referenced the postcodes of over 290,000 tourist attractions using mobile download speed data via CoverAgeMap.com’s ZIP code. We then calculated average download speeds across the top three service providers for each postal code, ranking attractions with the worst average mobile download speeds for each overall, condition and attraction type.
Important findings
Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming is the US tourist attraction with the worst mobile internet, with an average download speed of 1.7 MB/s.
In Silver Dollar City, Missouri, the average internet speed is 17.6 MB/s. This is the slowest of any theme park in the US.
The average download speed at Tulsa Zoo in Oklahoma is only 79.7 mb/s.
The reason for the slowness in Yellowstone National Park is because the area is protected from the construction of the Seps Cell Tower. As a vast, undeveloped area scattered with mountains and forests, the natural features of the park divide the signals from existing mobile phones.
The worst tourist attraction in Florida with mobile internet speeds.
The Sanibel Island Lighthouse in Florida may be a beacon of light and hope for Gulf seafarers, but it is not a beacon of connections, as its average mobile internet speed is 32.6 MB/s. Sanibel was primarily affected by Hurricane Ian in 2022, with the lighthouse severely damaged and serviced by flying debris. During the storm, the fiber cable connecting the mainland to Sanibel Island was cut off, blocking web communication with the island. At the same time, the tower used for mobile data was also knocked offline.
Silver Dollar City is a theme park with the worst connectivity. You’d think that American theme parks have high connection levels. However, most are just speed in double numbers.
The West Virginia prison was one of the worst historic landmarks in cell data
New Mexico’s geological wonders have the slowest data in nature.
