(Nexstar) – Biglot’s return began last week as nine stores opened in six states under new ownership as part of the brand’s 2024 bankruptcy filing. Currently, the second wave of Biglot stores is preparing to resume.
This is all part of a contract that was closed earlier this year along with Gordon Brothers retail partners. The deal outlined that variety wholesalers would acquire hundreds of large lot stores and retain the original branding.
Nine of these stores reopened last week.
Actual ID enforcement may be step-by-step, but the deadline is the same: what should you know
“We are thrilled to bring Big Lot back to life by offering more deals than ever before, many well-known brands and new apparel divisions,” Lisa Sajee’s, president and CEO of variety wholesaler, said in a press release announcing the location of the reopening store. She said, “I know that stores are not the best to start,” while stores are opening quickly to serve their respective communities.
“But every week, we’ll add more new products while being built towards the epic autumn opening celebration,” she continued. “Every time a customer visits a big lot! We want them to find something new and exciting!”
Dozens more former big lot shops are currently preparing to reopen in May.
According to the list, two waves are planned, according to various wholesalers offered to Nexstar. The first is scheduled to open on May 1st, while the second group will open on May 15th.

According to variety wholesalers, additional big lot stores are scheduled to open in June.
Meanwhile, other retailers have taken over some of the previous Big Lot storefronts. In March, discount retailer Ocean State Joblot announced it was preparing to acquire 15 former big lot stores in Delaware in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Vermont. Ollie’s bargain market has also acquired over three dozen big lot store leases.
It is unclear when these new stores will open.
