On May 21, the US government issued a reward of up to $2 million for information that led to the arrest or conviction of one of South America’s most wanted fugitive drug traffickers.
“The US is also asking anyone with first-hand knowledge of Marsett’s drug trafficking, money laundering and violence (actually or threatened) to contact the tip,” the State Department said Wednesday.
In August 2023, Bolivian authorities announced a $100,000 reward for capturing Uruguayan citizens.
According to the State Department, Marset’s wanted notice came after an investigation into organized crime conducted by the Paraguayan government in conjunction with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) office in Uruguay, Europol and Asuncion.
The investigation linked the criminal network led by Marset to more than 16 tons of cocaine and 4.7 tons of Paraguay seized in Europe, including the 11 tons of seizure at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium in April 2021.

Wyland also mentioned Marsett’s wife, Janina Garcia Troche. This was also a Uruguayan citizen who was arrested at Madrid Airport in July 2024 and handed over to Paraguay after being issued by Interpol on suspicion of involvement in Marsett’s crime.
According to the DEA, Santoro directed a move of at least $8 million from drug trafficking through US banks within five months.
