Pete Hegses also ordered the suspension of access for individuals with gender discomfort.
According to a memorandum released on February 10, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses ordered the suspension of transgender procedures for military members.
The Secretary of Defense also called for access to people with a history of gender discomfort, or those who believe that they are of a gender that is different from the gender at birth.
Both pauses take effect immediately.
Hegseth in his memo said that the Department of Defense must “construct “one force” without subgroups defined by anything other than capabilities or mission compliance,” and “along with the line of identity. He said that efforts to divide the army weaken our strength and make us vulnerable. “He said such efforts should not be “tolerated or imprisoned.”
The memo implements President Donald Trump’s executive order, which openly restricts trans people from serving the military. The order said that “the pursuit of military excellence cannot be diluted to accommodate political agendas and other ideologies that are detrimental to unit cohesion,” but the military has recently been experiencing a statement of physical services. They suffer from radical gender ideology to appease activists who are indifferent to their requirements. And mental health, selflessness, unit unit unity. ”
Previous military policies allowed trans people to serve.
A group of service members who say they are transgender quickly sued the order, along with the two who were transgender and wanted to join the military. They said it violated the protection of equal rights of the US Constitution for all.
They later submitted requests for interim injunctions or temporary restraining orders blocking the order as the cases progressed.
The hearing is taking place, but no court decision has been issued yet. Instead, the court ordered the government to notify the government of any policies or guidance issued to implement Trump’s orders.
“According to court orders,” they wrote, “The defendant will continue to update this list as additional policies or guidance have been promulgated.”
