The Pentagon order to remove books that promote gender ideology from its library

In another memo, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses instructed the Academy of Military Service to recognize students based on their achievements.

The Pentagon issued a memo on May 9th instructing Department of Defense leaders to review library material and remove books from educational institutions that promote “splitting concepts” or “gender ideology.”

The memo signed by the officials will instruct department leaders to identify books that are at odds with the Pentagon’s core mission to ensure national security and quarantine those materials by May 21, as they are performing their duties as Deputy Defense Director.

According to the memo, department leaders should conduct a deliberate review of the material before deciding on the “appropriate ultimate disposal.”

It said a temporary academic library committee, which includes leaders, educators and library experts across the military sector, will be set up to carry out the review.

“The secretary was clear. We are building a merit-based culture of colour brands that promote and reward individual initiatives, excellence, hard work,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in a statement.

This memo included an attachment containing a list of search terms that would help you identify books that needed to be reviewed. Among the terms listed are “diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI),” “anti-racism” and “gender discomfort.”

In another memo issued May 9, Defense Secretary Pete Hegses instructed the Academy of Military Service to recognize students who “recognize” students and to engage in the hospitalization process with “no race, ethnic or gender considerations.”

The academy may instead focus on experiences such as “unique athletic talents” and previous military service and performances at military service academic prep schools.

“This will allow only the most qualified candidates to be recognized and trained, and ultimately ask them to lead the best combat forces in history,” Heggs said in his memo.

“Picking the best and best people undermines the culture of lethality, our fighting preparation, and our military excellence,” the Pentagon chief added.

The move follows the Trump administration’s efforts to remove DEI-related programs from federal and government initiatives. After taking office on January 20th, President Donald Trump announced that his previous administration had forced an “illegal and immoral discrimination program” through the DEI initiative, across virtually “all aspects of the federal government.”

“The disclosure of these plans showed enormous public waste and shameful discrimination. It’s over today,” Trump said in order.

Trump also issued another executive order on Jan. 27, saying that individuals “expressing false ‘gender identity'” did not meet military service standards.

“Beyond the hormonal and surgical medical interventions involved, even in the individual’s personal life, the Soldier’s commitment to an honorable, true, and disciplined lifestyle and the adoption of gender identities that contradict individual sexual conflict,” the order said.

“The military must adhere to high mental and physical health standards to enable the military to deploy, fight and win, including strict conditions, including the benefits of routine medical care and special provisions.”

Following that order, Hegses issued a policy on February 26th, stating that service members and military applicants with gender discomfort are not inconsistent with military service.

He urged the Pentagon to create procedures and implement procedures to identify troops with current diagnosis or history, or, according to the memo, showed symptoms showing gender discomfort before initiating “separation behavior” for those individuals.
