TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – As advances in artificial intelligence accelerate, cybersecurity experts are warning that security measures are behind the AI spoofing by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“It was only a matter of time before someone actually tried to take this step,” said John Reichart, an associate professor at Bellini University of Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Computing at the University of South Florida. “I think this will be a wake-up call for many of these organizations.”

The US Department of State sent warnings to foreign diplomats after the discovery of the AI impersonation of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The impersonator tried to reach out to at least three foreign ministers, the US Senator and the governor.
Department spokesman Tammy Bruce answered questions from reporters at a media briefing Tuesday.
“Of course, the State Department is aware of this incident and is currently monitoring and dealing with the issue,” Bruce said. “For security reasons, there are no details to offer at this time.”
