“The event has attracted a lot of attention on social media and has received numerous calls to send the department to demand action,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post.
As of Thursday afternoon, the video has been shared by over 25,000 people on Facebook, earning over 76,000 responses and comments. The video in the explicit language was shared with YouTube, which was viewed by over 37,000 people.
YouTube views quadrupled by the end of the night, with over 11 million people seeing Facebook posts.
This video appears to be just over four minutes of discussion on two boats. The man’s intermediate, who identified himself as a charter captain, could be seen climbing on other boaters’ ships.
Police said the incident was between two adults. Officers have not released details regarding the incident or its investigation.
The Punta Gorda Police Station is asking people not to call to report the situation as they are already aware, and calls to dispatches could slow down response to emergencies.
Officials said Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Coast Guard were also investigating.
