BARTHTO, Fla. (WFLA) – Another city in Polk County has taken a step closer to removing fluoride from the water.

On March 17th, the City of Barto Commissioners are expected to vote on whether to continue adding fluoride to the water.

It was a public meeting Tuesday night with speakers packed into the podium and speakers packed in after they heard their attitude towards fluoride.

Fluoride has been added to drinking water for years to prevent tooth decay.

State surgeon Dr. Joseph Radapop, who attended the meeting, said he had stopped putting fluoride in the water and warned him of health risks.

“The bottom line means you have multiple studies. This is more clearly and clearly the higher fluoride levels and the harms of neurotoxicity, neuropsychiatric harms. It’s about showing a connection,” Radapop said.

The surgeon general mentioned several studies that stated that fluoride could lead to child IQ and behavioral issues.

Radapop said the most sensitive population is children and pregnant mothers.

“I really had no choice to decide whether I was taking fluoride while pregnant. “My mother, who spoke during my public comment, said.

On the other side, people working in the dental field say they see the benefits of fluoride every day, outweighing the potential harm.

“I’ve been practicing in Pork County for 35 years, helping people who benefit from fluoride and those who benefit from fluoride. Perhaps my experience will benefit you. Dental clinic in Lakeland. Dr. John Paul, who owns the company, said:

He said fluoride helps save multiple trips to dentists.

“Where you can see that the cavity is one per child and one per grandma where fluoride is available. If fluoride is not available, one per tooth and two per tooth. I see the bugs coming in,” Paul said.

The city commissioner thanked everyone who spoke to us at the meeting and said they needed to look into everything they heard before voting.

Bartow is currently one of five cities in Polk County, adding fluoride to drinking water.
