The cause of death of US lawyer Jessica Aber revealed by Virginia police

Officials say it is likely that Abber died of natural causes. No specific causes or methods of death have been announced.

Officials on Tuesday revealed the possible causes of the death of a former US lawyer who died at his Virginia home over the weekend, believing he succumbed to a natural cause.

Jessica Abber, 43, died on March 22 at her home in Alexandria, Virginia, to the body, authorities said. Abber was a US lawyer for the Eastern District of Virginia until he resigned on January 20th, when the Trump administration took over.

“At this time, detectives have found no evidence to suggest that her death was caused by anything other than natural causes,” Alexandria police said in an update Tuesday evening.

An investigation into her death is underway, and the local medical inspector’s office has not announced her cause or how she died, police said. Further updates will be made by the medical examination room, according to the statement.

“We urge the public to respect the privacy of Mr Aber’s family during this loss,” the statement continued.

Former President Joe Biden’s appointee, Abber worked as a US lawyer from 2021 to 2025 before resigning. She was nominated for Biden in August 2021 and was unanimously confirmed by the Senate a few months later.

In a letter of resignation, which was released three days before she resigned, Abber thanked Biden and Officer Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Tim Kane (D-Va.).

After her death, officials issued a statement expressing sadness to Aber’s family. This includes Eric Sheebert, the current US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the state Attorney General.

“We are heartbroken beyond words and learn about the passing of our friend and former colleague, US lawyer Jessica Abber,” Sheebert said in a statement Saturday. “She is unparalleled as a leader, leader, and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being. We are in awe of how much she achieved in this world in such a short time.”

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyarez also praised Abal for her work to curb violent crime.

“I am saddened to learn that a US lawyer for the Eastern District of Virginia, including a career in public services, has passed away from Jessica Abber, whose work with the Virginia Cerezius ceasefire saved more lives than we would have noticed.” “Our thoughts and our prayers are with her family this week.”

Before becoming a US lawyer, she worked as an assistant US lawyer in her Virginia office and charged financial fraud, public corruption, violent crimes and child exploitation cases.

On January 17, she pleaded guilty to leaking confidential documents, one of her most important legal victories, as former CIA analyst AISF Rahman. Aber also led the charges against Eleview International Inc., a company accused of running “a scheme for illegally transporting American technology that has been illegally transported to Russia,” the DOJ said.
