Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – There is an app that lets people track immigration and customs enforcement sightings in their communities.
Meanwhile, Gov. Ron DeSantis has announced a new executive division with the Florida Highway Patrol.
Telling the state’s “Florida Blueprint 2.0” for illegal immigration
The governor praised the agency on Friday for how they tackled illegal immigration.
“There are no agencies in the country that do more than they have,” DeSantis said.
On X, the governor shared statistics on highway enforcement, saying that since March 2025 more than 3,000 undocumented immigrants have been arrested. And more than 160 car accidents included the arrest of undocumented immigrants.
The new unit with FHP will focus on finding and arresting undocumented immigrants in partnerships with local, state and federal agencies.
“Now they can do it and work seamlessly with the federal government, so it’s really positive to have that type of relationship,” DeSantis said.
Analam is an advocate for the immigrant community.
“What Governor DeSantis was saying is like escalating to another level when the bottom is not fixed,” Lamb said. “There’s concern there, because there’s a lot of racial profiling.”
She said something was needed to protect all migrants who were afraid to be greeted by the ice.
Some people use Coqui, a live map-based community alert app. People can bookmark ice, police sightings and more. Posts are anonymous and rely on community reports.
“We need to make sure it works for people or not,” Lamb said. “If you can manage this correctly and accurately and use it, if possible, it will help a lot.”
The Department of Homeland Security also has apps that allow you to voluntarily self-denial. Lamb said all circumstances are different, so she advises people to consult with an attorney before making that decision.
