BELGRADE, Fla. (WFLA) – A three-year-old boy accidentally shot his hand with a handgun left on the couch, according to an arrest affidavit.
On Monday, detectives from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lakeside Medical Center in Belgrade to investigate events that led to child injuries.

It was discovered that the infant shot his left hand with a loaded CZ P-10 S handgun left by the coach.
Investigators with the child and family told a young boy in the hospital about the injury when they said, “I shot it… I shot it! I shot it! I was crying.”
The neighbor told the detective that they heard one gunshot, followed by a child’s scream. The screams were heard on a neighbor’s ring camera video and accompanied by the child who saw the child walking towards the parking lot, holding his hand, the affidavit said.
When deputies searched the house, they found a single shell case and a drop of blood on the floor in the living room.

According to the affidavit, two adults spoke at the front door when they heard “pop,” and found a toddler bleeding from his hands. The gun owner, 24-year-old Jashaun Matisse, wrapped the child’s hand in a towel and rushed to the hospital.
Mattis tells detectives that he is carrying a handgun for protection, and usually keeps it in a box with snap stickers above the kitchen cabinet. However, on the day he claimed that he accidentally left a protected gun on the sofa while outside.
It is unclear what the relationship between Mattis and the child is.
Mattis was charged with negligence and negligence of a child. He is scheduled to be arrested on April 28th.
