Polk County, Fla. (WFLA) – Two Tampa Bay sheriffs are currently serving on the newly created state Immigration Enforcement Council.
The council was created under a new immigration law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last week.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said the council’s role is to provide recommendations to the board, and one of these recommendations is to communicate better with local, state and federal agencies.
Desantis is not wasting time.
“We’ve been focusing on immigration enforcement like a laser beam. The state and local people play an important role in supporting the Trump administration,” the governor said.
The governor said he has established the Florida Immigration Committee and the state Immigration Executive Committee as part of the law. The eight-member council advised the board and two Tampa Bay sheriffs were appointed: Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Guartieri and Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

“It is said that at least 1.4 million people have deportation warrants and ice custody rights rights rights right now, but they can’t put them in the NCIC system or our computer system,” Judd said. However, they do not return showing that they have a deportation warrant. โ
Another focus of the council is on capabilities.
“The other problem is capacity,” he said. “There are only 2,000 ice beds in Florida, but we estimate there are 1.2 million illegal aliens here. Many of these are priorities, and the priorities are committed here. It’s something that’s what it is.”
Judd said local enforcement agencies have reported those people to the ice since they arrested them, but when ICE runs them through the system, they mostly don’t hold those people under control. Ta.
Judd said changes are needed quickly to correct system gaps or to correct other gaps.
“We are forced to bring these illegal immigrants back onto the streets with criminal charges,” he said.
The Florida Sheriff’s Association will meet Monday morning to discuss the latest information on compliance at all county jails throughout the state.
The Florida Sheriff’s Association president and Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Plumel, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd and the sheriff’s throughout the state will talk about their progress and the role of sheriff in dealing with illegal immigration.
