ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) – A minor was shot and killed by another minor at an Orlando park Thursday, prompting a lockdown at a nearby high school and a heavy law enforcement presence.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office told NBC affiliate WESH that the shooting happened at Vogt Mellon Park, near Oak Ridge High School and the South Orlando YMCA.

The suspect ran into the high school after the shooting and was detained by school resource officers, authorities said.
Orange County Public Schools released the following statement regarding the incident:
“Oak Ridge High School is currently on lockdown due to a police investigation in the area surrounding the campus. This occurred after the school was dismissed and students and staff remaining on campus are safe. Additional questions should be directed to law enforcement.”
The lockdown has since been lifted.
Investigators have not yet released details of the circumstances leading up to the shooting or the identity of the slain minor.
