According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment in technology and computing fields is expected to grow much faster than other fields from 2024 to 2034, with an estimated 317,700 job openings across the United States each year.
To determine which states are the best and worst to work in if you have a career in tech, online cybersecurity technology platform TryHackMe crunched the numbers based on the average annual cost of a tech degree. Florida ranked 40th among the 10 worst states, with tech graduates earning 65% more than average.
There are 397 schools in the state that offer technology courses, with an average annual tuition fee of $18,552. The median earnings for technical graduates after four years is $50,762, compared to $30,768 for graduates overall, a 65% increase.
Alaska, Wyoming, and Utah have been named the best states to live in for people working in the technology industry.

Rhode Island, Hampshire, and Maine are some of the worst states to live in to start a career in the tech industry.
“The prospects for high-tech graduates are among the best of any field,” said Ben Spring, co-founder of TryHackMe. “The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that high-tech fields are likely to see a bigger job boom than other fields, and that trend is only going to increase.”
