That goal proved to be very important as Zach Heyman went 4-3 at 16:35, when he fell into their deficit in minutes of oil-decreasing regulations.
From there, the Panthers’ offensive play led to a lack of discipline from the Oilers.
With 3:17 left in the regulations, Matthias Ekholm sent the Panthers into power play when he tripped Sam Reinhart. After surviving that penalty kill, Edmonton essentially finished his shot with a comeback when Perry abandoned Gustav in just 13.16 seconds.
Following a Cup victory, the Panthers finished 2-0-0 with the Oilers this season.
“Playing against these guys is always a big game, especially after what happened last year,” Verhaeghe said. “I think it was a message tonight that even made the most of them. We like the way we played. We grinded it. We got a victory, but this is the most important thing.”
They said that
“I feel like every team we’ve played against in the playoffs. We’re also building extra sparks between the teams. I felt there today.” – Anton Randell
“When he (Anton Landell) wants to be, when he has his body and his position, he can really take over the game and dominate. I think it’s just that as a young player he’s learning to get better. It’s fun to develop his progress as a young child into a man.” – Nate Schmidt
