(Nexstar) – It’s been five months since Big Lots announced it was preparing to close all of its stores after filing for bankruptcy and closing hundreds of other stores. Since then, more than 100 big lot stores have reopened under new management.
Nearly 80 big lot stores are scheduled to open next month, various wholesalers confirmed with Nexstar on Monday. (The company has acquired hundreds of large lot stores, but retains the original branding as part of a deal reached by Gordon Brothers retail partners.)
What is the Tiktokshop and where did everything come from?
This comes after nine stores reopened in April and two reopened waves in May resumed two waves, reopening a total of several dozen stores each. The fourth wave of store reopening scheduled for Thursday, June 4th will expand the footprint of the big lot in nine states.

Details about these stores, including opening hours, can be found on the Big Lots website after reopening on June 5th. Variety wholesalers said the grand opening celebrations for these stores are planned for the fall.
In this fourth store, the Big Lot footprint reaches 220 stores. This is just a few of the over 1,300 locations that were open around last year.
Biglot began in 1967, but until 2001 all of its stores operated under that name. Speculation that retailers could file for bankruptcy began to bubble up last summer after warning the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which filed that 35-40 locations could be closed. A few weeks later, the estimate jumped to over 300.
Some states give money on handsome yet stinky trees
Company leaders pointed to inflation and difficulties in competition. Then, in September, Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection was raised. In the months to follow, hundreds of shops will be closed. However, last minute sales in January allowed hundreds of stores to stay open.
The sales agreement reached with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners stipulated that variety wholesalers would acquire and reopen 200-400 former Big lot stores and maintain branding. It is unclear whether additional store openings are on the horizon.
A new life has been found in the storefront of the original Biglot, which has not reopened. Other retailers, such as Ocean State Job Lot and Ollie’s bargain market, have announced plans to take over these locations. Meanwhile, in Denver, the pickleball facility is set to open in the former Big Lot by the end of the year.
