Tampa, FL (WFLA) – Sen. Ashley Moody introduced “safer truck driving techniques” after three people died in Florida.
According to Senator Ashley Moody, “Safer Truck Driving Techniques” require the state to report compliance with state proficiency standards to establish legal US residential requirements for commercial drivers’ licenses and to enable truckers to read road warnings and signs.
If you don’t do both, you’ll lose federal funds from the Department of Transportation.
“If you are an American commercial truck driver, if you can read English road signs competently, it’s not an option…it’s a job. So I introduced the ‘Safer Truck Driver Behavior’ and to prevent what happened with illegal aliens who failed the English proficiency test, I made a dangerous U-turn in our central part to prevent it happening in my hometown with ‘Safer Alien failed his English proficiency test’. Senator Ashley Moody said.
Two requirements are added to the standards the federal government controls states for CDL publication.
“On behalf of the Florida Truck Association, I commend Florida Sen. Ashley Moody for introducing the 2025 “Safer Truck Driving Techniques.” Safety is the number one priority in the trucking industry. said Alix Miller, president and CEO of the Florida Track Dr.
The two additional requirements are:
CDLs are awarded only to US citizens, legal permanent residents, or to those with valid working visas. States must report to the federal government about their efforts to support English proficiency requirements.
According to Moody, the proposed law comes after three people died in Florida on August 12th.
Harjinder Singh made an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike, causing an accident.
The Department of Transport said truck drivers who have been awarded CDL from California and Washington provide correct answers to only two of the 12 verbal questions and can identify any of the four traffic signs on his English proficiency test.
