Video above: Law Enforcement Warns about Sunpass Text Message Scam

Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – Have you noticed that these SunPas scam texting is finally beginning to fade? Well, here’s a new scheme for them.

The scammers pretend to be employees of Florida’s “DMV” and are called Florida Highway Safety and Automobiles.

HCSO identifies the family of four who were killed when the car hits Ruskin’s house

The fake text claims that recipients are paying fees from outstanding traffic tickets and must pay them immediately, or they face losing driving privileges and even criminal charges.

Examples of fraudulent text messages

The message includes a link that says scammers can access residents to ease their balance. While this site may seem official, it is actually designed to steal payment information.

Do not click on the link or enter your web address into your browser!

The Florida Highway Safety and Automobile Department took them to social media to remind residents that staff members would not be willing to collect fees more than textbooks. You can report the fraud to the Florida Attorney General’s Office at the link here.
