Hannah Gutierrez Reid served 18 months behind the bar in connection with the 2021 death of cinematographer Harina Hutchins.

Hannah Gutierrez Reid, an armored manslaughter convicted of manslaughter in a fatal shooting on the set of the film Rust, has been released from prison.

Gutierrez-Reed was released from Western New Mexico Correctional Facility on May 23 after serving 18 months behind the bar.

In March 2024, the ju judge ruled that Gutierrez Red was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in connection with the 2021 death of cinematologist Harina Hutchins.

She was also found not guilty of another charge of tampering with evidence.

At the time of filming, actor Alec Baldwin had a Colt .45, killing Hutchins and injured Joel Sousa, while preparing for the scene when the gun disappeared.

Prosecutors argued that Gutierrez Reid was inexperienced and that many mistakes led to tragedy.

Prosecutors said Gutierrez Reid brought live ammunition to the set, accidentally loading it into a revolver, “a combination of Hannah Gutierrez’s negligence and inexperience, and Alec Baldwin’s total lack of concern for the safety of those around him.”

She was sentenced to the greatest penalty, but Baldwin, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter, dismissed his case in July 2024 with bias.
Gutierrez-Reed will be parole until May next year, and after her supervised release in Arizona, she will need to follow parole guidelines, including but not limited to electrical monitoring, maintaining curfews, and enrollment at work and school.
She also serves 18 months of supervised probation for another case after pleading guilty to illegally transporting a gun to a licensed liquor facility.

The criminal charges stem from a repeated incident by Gutierrez transported a firearm to a bar in downtown Santa Fe where firearms are banned just weeks before filming for “Rust.”

Filming was suspended for more than a year after the onset shooting, and production was eventually completed in Montana.

“Tell me about the butterfly effect. I hope you’ve never written a damn movie,” Sousa told The Guardian before the film’s release. “You think about the series of events that began that morning (of filming), and the bad decisions were made after a bad decision was made.”

Despite his hesitation, Sousa pointed out that Hutchins’ family had dedicated the film to ensuring its completion and honoring her with every film decision.

“Rust” was released in a limited number of theaters nationwide earlier this month, and also via online streaming such as Apple TV, Prime Video and other on-demand platforms.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
