Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis proposed a plan to provide property tax relief to homeowners across the state. If approved by Congress, the rebate will be issued in December 2025 and will apply to state-mandated school property taxes.
According to Governor Desantis’ office, the proposal aims to benefit more than 5.1 million residential facilities and ease financial pressure on Florida residents while maintaining full funding for the district.
“Constitutional protections for Florida homeowners will require voter approval in 2026,” Desantis said during the announcement. “In the meantime, Floridians need relief.”
The initiative is in line with Desantis’ broader goal of ultimately eliminating Florida property taxes through constitutional amendments. He cited the state’s strong financial position as a way to fund the bailout without affecting the education budget, urging lawmakers to act during the current legislative meeting to approve the rebate program.
The Florida Legislature has not yet formally responded to the proposal.
