Marion County, Fla. — Florida has awarded more than 7,800 recruitment bonuses to newly hired law enforcement officials through Florida’s Law Enforcement Recruitment Bonus Payment Program, officials announced this week. The recent distribution of bonuses has been sent to Marion County officials, with 660 bonuses recently added to recruits across the state.
The program, launched in 2022, offers a one-time after-tax payment of $5,000 to eligible new executives. The initiative aims to encourage individuals to pursue careers in law enforcement within the state and to recognize public services, according to the governor’s office.
Gov. Ron DeSantis personally presented bonus checks to Marion County officials, highlighting his continued investment in recruiting law enforcement in Florida. The state reports that more than 1,700 officers have moved to Florida from 49 other states and two US territories, of which more than 500 come from states such as California, Illinois and New York.
In total, the program has distributed more than $53 million in bonuses since its launch.
Florida Secretary of Commerce J. Alex Kelly highlights the state’s broader strategies to support law enforcement efforts and public safety initiatives, saying the state continues to provide resources aimed at encouraging officers and strengthening enforcement capabilities.
Beyond the $5,000 hiring bonus, the state is also promoting additional perks for new law enforcement officials, including competitive compensation packages, health and retirement benefits, student loan forgiveness and housing assistance programs.
