Today, Florida Sen. Rick Scott joined his Republican colleagues, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and North Carolina Sen. Tom Tillis, to announce the introduction of an American flag that will post American flags and ensure that all American flags purchased using US taxes will be made in America. The bill also closes loopholes used by Chinese manufacturers and creates and sells American flags labeled as made in America.
“The American flag represents the pride and joy of being American, representing the value of a nation based on freedom, democracy and the dreams of America. Scott says that creating an American flag is a privilege that should only be granted to nations like communist China, who are trying to destroy the American way of life. Our bill preserves and protects the pride of American-made products and the patriotism we love and the nation’s patriotism. We encourage our colleagues to support its quick passages.”
In 2024, Congress passed and the president signed the law. This prohibits agencies from using funds to raise US flags unless they are manufactured in the US from materials grown, produced and manufactured in the US. However, a loophole in the law allowed Chinese companies to sell American flags on e-commerce platforms and mislabel those flags as made in America. The Make American Flags in America Act of 2025 requires the acquisition threshold to be removed and the FTC will produce a report assessing execution.
“There is a bipartisan agreement that American flags should be produced in the United States using American materials, but loopholes in existing laws allow Chinese manufacturers, including websites with fraudulent brands, to sell the flag,” Cruz said. “This bill will close those loopholes. Congress should take it and pass it quickly.”
