Florida Sen. Rick Scott introduced the US Citrus Protection Act, which bans the import of fresh citrus fruits from the Communist Party from communist China to the United States, ensuring the integrity of American agriculture and reducing reliance on goods produced by regimes that pose a threat to the United States. Rep. Greg Steube is leading the law in the House of Representatives.
Scott’s bill comes after Florida’s citrus industry suffered through the most severe recession in decades, and one of the biggest citrus farms last year was shut down.
Following Senator Scott’s letter to Agriculture Secretary, the law outlines some of his priorities for American agriculture, expressing his support for the administration’s efforts and commitment to the American farmers and the agricultural community, and covering some of his priorities for American agriculture, including protecting American farmers, producers and growers from foreign influence and exploitation.
“Communist China is the enemy of the United States and is one of the biggest threats to national security, economic security, food security and the American way of life,” Scott said. “For years, how communist China has been seeking global control, and willing to undermine our markets, avoid trade practices, and destroy American companies to do so. This is a regime that does not play according to our rules, does not have the best interests of Americans in mind. Even for American citrus growers by stopping the importation of these products from China by Communist Party.
