TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – The return to school tax holiday begins Friday, the first of a massive 31-day savings for Florida families and teachers.
“From August 1st to the end of August, Floridians can save money on important school supplies,” Gov. Ron DeSantis said.
A study conducted by the National Retail Federation found that shoppers at K-12 schools budget $143.77 on school supplies alone.
With the return to school tax credits coming into effect on Friday, shoppers can expect some savings on everything, including backpacks, binders, clothing, shoes and even technology items like laptops.
One of the major differences from this year’s tax holidays is that shoppers are guaranteed to be able to rely on each year.
“We’ve officially planted the flag and said it’s important and it’s important enough to make it permanent,” said Florida House Speaker Danny Perez.
Items purchased must meet certain criteria, such as pricing, but authorities hope that this repeated tax cuts will help everyone prepare better.
“What we said to our Florida families, especially those with school-age children, is that when it’s time to go to school next year, we’re going to hear you, meet you, and invest in the opportunity for you,” Senate President Ben Albritt said.
If shopping audiences are wondering what they’ll look like next month, the same survey from the NRF expects 48% of shoppers to go out to department stores and stock up on supplies, while 55% choose to shop online instead.
