Fort Lauderdale – When it works, it works.
The sport known for its superstitions doesn’t lack the preferences of the Florida Panthers.
Over the past few weeks, I have voted for a group of players to hear about their equipment habits.
This is what they had to say.
Aleksander Barkov: My skates and sticks are very habitual, but everything else I say is almost anything you can get from the store. I tried a few other curves, but most of the time I used my own one.
Sam Bennett: I’ve always used black tape for my life. When I was a kid, my dad told me he was camouflaging the pack more. I believed in him, and that’s probably why (I stuck to it).
Jesper Boqvist: I got some things, but never went crazy. I had the same curve for 8 or 9 years. I tried to switch a few times, but I always go back to the same curve. I was always white tape. I’ve grown it a bit, but for the past decade it’s all white.
Jonah Gadjovich: My stick curve was always the same as I was in juniors. It hasn’t changed in 10 years. I’ve been using black tape for about 10 years. I switched for fun like practice or something, and that’s exactly different. I’m more used to black tape.
AJ Greer: It can be trivial to lock me in, but I’m not really like a superstition or pattern. I have the mental thing I do. I look at the scoreboard, look around, and lock in, just like before I went on the ice. Plus, embrace the moment. I like to listen to music driving, but that’s about it.
Spencer Knight: I think the only thing I actually play with is my paddle grip. I use the same grip as Bob (Sergei Bobrovsky). It’s a shaved paddle so it handles more comfortably. I’m also quite open to trying new things.
