TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Rep. Byron Donald is the first to throw a hat into the ring for Florida’s 2026 governor’s race.
In an interview with Fox News, he said, “I’m here to announce my candidacy to be the next governor of Florida’s great state.”
The announcement comes less than a week after President Trump approved Donald on social media. Donald is one of the president’s biggest supporters in Congress, questioning the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.
Before spending the past four years in the Legislature, Naples spent four years in the state legislature. Gov. Ron DeSantis questioned whether the experience qualifies him as a good leader.
DeSantis recently said, “I want these lawmakers to focus on enacting his agenda, they haven’t done much yet.”
In an interview with Donald’s Fox News, he praised the governor’s work in the state.
“I think it’s time to take the mantle and bring the state into the future. We have a great governor. Ron DeSantis does an incredible job for our state, and now we’re So the job is to stay at the best in the country. It’s at the best in the country and that’s going to be the mission at hand,” Donald said.

A recent poll from the University of North Florida Public Opinion Research Lab shows Casey DeSantis has the most positive rating among candidates. Most people in the survey say they didn’t know enough about the other candidates.
