Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – Friday, May 16th is your life jacket for national wear on work day. This precedes National Safeboat Week, which begins on Saturday, May 17th.

There are many different types of life jackets, and certain types of water activities require a particular type. Make sure you know which type is right for you!

A perfect fit is important and it is a requirement to have one vest on the boat for everyone on board.

It is important to note that inflatable life jackets only count when worn.

Type III is required if you are pulled behind a water ski or container.

Throwable flotation devices need to be easily grabbed by boat over 16 feet.

Clearwater’s Coast Guard Assist will provide a free ship safety check on the Belleair Causeway boat ramp on Saturday, May 17th to prepare and keep this boat season safe.
