TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida thorny lobsters are not only eaten, but they are delicate to catch by recreational anglers.

The regular season lasts from August 6th to March 31st each year, but before the season resumes there is a two-day miniseason on the last Wednesday and Thursday of July each year.

This two-day mini-season is called sportsman season and gives recreational anglers the opportunity to harvest lobsters before the commercial lobster trap returns and the lobsters become a little more difficult.
Amanda takes advantage of this two-day season with the Florida Keys every year! The season will last from midnight on Wednesday until 11:59pm on Thursday, but the key won’t allow you to enter the water at night.

You can scoop them on a net called Bully Netting. At night they roam the grass and sand to feed. Finding them is easy.

During the day, it is possible to enter the water and encourages snorkeling and scuba diving when hidden in holes, cracks and shelves. To get them out, use a tickle stick to tickle the tail from behind, let them walk forward, and place the net on top of them to capture.

It is important to measure them immediately to ensure that they are of legal scale. You also need to check the eggs. Women with eggs on their tails should be released immediately.

Lobster is fun to catch and tasty to eat. Amanda likes to take out meat from a fish and cook it.

She also has to file orange skin from meat. The lobster molts the shells, and its orange skin is a new tail growing in the lobster. If you don’t remove it, some of the meat will be tough and rubbery, but after removing it, it will be cooked perfectly.

Florida lobsters have their own flavor and are not sweet because they live in warmer waters than main lobsters. They have a milder and slightly salty flavour.
