TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Protesters took Donald Trump and Elon Musk to the streets on Saturday to protest, but it wasn’t the only event that took place in the Tampa Bay area.
From Tampa to Lakeland, “handoff” rally was organized to protest federal government’s reduced workforce and spending.
“I’m not just aware that there are a lot of other people who feel the same way. And it’s time to speak up,” protester Ross Gottstein said.
Thousands of people have denounced Elon Musk and President Donald Trump.
“I had a wife who was a veteran, and I have two stepdaughters who are veterans, one of them still works in the military.
The protesters said they would stand up for democracy and send a message to Washington leaders to stop “Doge.”
“So I think we are sitting at home talking to each other about something terrible coming out and we need to say something.
Some protesters fear that freedom of speech is being threatened under the Trump administration. They disagree with his administration’s policies to manage illegal immigration.
Some even said there was unfair treatment due to their religion.
“I represent Muslim Americans at our agency. We had to encourage permanent residents and green card holders not to travel at all because we are stopped by border protection. They are stopped by the TSA.
When asked about the protest, in an email to NBC News, the White House said President Trump plans to protect Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for eligible people.
