A recent poll reported by Rasmussen revealed that 54% of US voters consider the media “really the enemy of the people,” while 28% strongly agree. Meanwhile, 41%, including 28% who strongly oppose this view, disagree.
Trump denounced “fake news” in 2019 after Mueller’s report found no evidence of “Russian conspiracy.” The proportion of voters who view the media as “enemy” is only a slight decline from 58% in 2021. The survey conducted between January 29th and February 2nd, 2025 included 1,325 respondents with an error of ±3 percentage points. .
At a 20-point margin, many voters believe the press is more anti-Trump than Pro Trump. 41% feel that reporters are aiming to sabotage Trump’s agenda, while 21% believe they are trying to help him. Of those who reporters consider to be hampering Trump, 79% agree that the media is “really the enemy of people.”
Party affiliations show that 64% of Republicans, 17% of Democrats and 44% of independents believe reporters are trying to block Trump’s agenda. Conversely, 30% of Democrats think that reporters are aiming to help him, compared to 16% of Republicans and independents.
78% of Republicans, 35% of Democrats, and 49% of independents agree to at least to some extent that the media is “really the enemy of the people.” Among the racial demographics, 43% of white voters, 30% of black voters, 42% of Hispanic voters, and 46% of other minorities share this view, with Hispanics most agreeing. There is a tendency to do so.
In terms of income, those who make more than $200,000 are likely to believe that reporters are aiming for fair news, while those who make between $50,000 and $100,000 are saying that the media is “really the enemy of people.” There is a greater chance that you agree. Of the voters who strongly approve Trump’s performance, 90% support the idea that the media is their enemy.
Additionally, the 13-point margin will be approved by more voters than disapprove of Trump’s policies regarding transgender individuals in the military. Two-thirds of voters also supported Trump’s orders to allow federal employees to return to their offices, ending work-from-home policies established during the Covid-19 pandemic.
