Fort Lauderdale – Join the prowl.
On Monday, the American Cancer Society (ACS) announced the launch of “Panthers on the Prowl” at Baptist Health Iceplex.
Co-chaired by Bill Jeet, general manager of the Florida Panthers hockey business, and general manager, Julie, “Panthers on the Prowl,” a Southeast Florida fundraising campaign aimed at supporting cancer research, patient services and advocacy programs.
“Panthers on the Prowl is an opportunity to truly showcase creativity, passion and excitement, and contribute to the mission in an incredible way,” said EVP Kimberly Jackson, ACS Southeast Region.
A unique way to support cancer research and raise awareness will have the opportunity for people and businesses to purchase, decorate and display life-size Panther statues.
“We wanted to do something different,” Julie Jeet said. “People want to be more involved in something unique that others can see.”
Inspired by Chicago’s “Cows of Parade” Panther statues can be seen all around South Florida, in front of businesses such as yards and boats.
“Julie’s ideas,” Jeet said of how the ideas turned out. “We’ve arrived at our homes, the life-size Panthers. When asked to join something like this, you’re trying to come up with creative ways to raise money. Julie says, “Don’t you do this?”
The Panther symbolizes even more because it is bigger than hockey or cool display symbols.
“The way she (the statue) stands is exactly that symbol of strength and perseverance,” Julie said.
