Sunrise, Fla. — The South Florida chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association (PHWA) announced today that Florida Panthers forward Jesper Bocvist has been selected as the 2024-25 nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy club.
Boqvist appeared in 236 National Hockey League matches against the New Jersey Devils (2019-20-2022-23) and the Boston Bruins (2023-24) before joining the Panthers as a free agent before the start of the 2024-25 season. He skated in 65 American Hockey League (AHL) games with Binghamton Devils (2019-20-2020-21), Utica Comets (2021-22), and Providence Bruins (2023-24).
Falun, a native of Swedish, has scored 23 points (12-11-23) in 74 matches in Florida this season, earning his career-best career in assists and points. He is tied for the least amount of time (14) in penalty minutes (14) among the Panthers skaters who have played at least 70 games this season and ranked third in the team with 169 hits.
The winner of Masterton Trophy will be selected from the PHWA Chapter 32 poll at the end of the regular season. Each of the 32 PHWA members chapters has nominated players from the 32 NHL clubs they cover.
PHWA first unveiled the Masterton Trophy in 1968, and in commemoration of Minnesota North Stars player Bill Masterton, a highly exhibited qualities of hockey patience, sportsmanship and dedication. Masterton died on January 15, 1968 after being injured in the game.
