Volsia County, Fla. (WFLA) – An off-duty Edgewater police officer was shot dead at a gas station per Ormond on Monday.
Circle K employees were seen in surveillance footage of victim David Jewel, 45, walking around the store shortly after walking around 4:08 p.m.
The shooter Eduardo Felipera Bradamachado, 24, went to the car to retrieve his jacket and returned to the store to shoot Jewell multiple times, killing him, the Volsia Sheriff’s Office announced.
It is believed that the victim and Machado know each other.
“David is someone we can rely on and have never heard anything bad about him, and he’s going to be a huge loss to the Edgewater Police Department,” Edgewater Police Chief Charles Geiger told a media briefing on the scene.
The motives for the shooting are under investigation.
“Volusia Sheriff’s Office expresses that pacity to Jewell’s family and the entire Edgewater police station. Jewell previously worked as a telecommunications service at Volusia Sheriff’s Office,” VSO said in a Facebook post.
Machado is in custody.
