Programming at the Orange County Regional History Center in July includes sessions on Downtown Church Street in Orlando, astronaut John Young and artist Boblos, as well as the history of famous Central Floridians such as Florida’s “Snubb Cow Culture.”

The museum’s lunch and learning event, set at noon on July 11th, reflects on how the cattle industry and the 1895 smear campaign were presented in bad light. According to the History Center website, the lecture will cover stories about ranch traditions and people who “shape our cows in the past and continue to influence the cows in the present.” Cheyenne Stastysin, the museum’s public program coordinator, will be the speaker. (The cost for the public is $5 without lunch and $17 for pre-ordered meals.)

On July 5th, the historic event will feature family-friendly activities based on famous Florida, including writing poems on a typewriter. The event also offers four rounds of guided museum tours.

On July 17th, author Rick Kilby will speak at a session called “From the Railroad to Rosie: The Evolution of the Blocks of Church Street.” Think of Railroad Depot on Garland Avenue along with Bob Snow and Bumby Brothers. The program is associated with the museum’s “Orlando Collection” exhibition, which marks the 150th anniversary of the city’s founding. Church Street Chat folds downtown’s third Thursday event, translated to a free history center admission from 5pm to 9pm (Kilby’s lecture begins at 5:30pm)

Kennedy Space Center will be retro for off-hours events

The Sensory Sunday of the month covers the history of the Orlando soccer team. Set between noon and 4pm on July 20th, the event is designed to be a pleasant experience for visitors with autism spectrum disorder and sensory processing sensitivity.

The three-part genealogy series will begin on July 23rd. Participants will meet with experts and get a starter packet to explore family history. It is also linked to an exhibition “collected by Orlando.” (The follow-up sessions will be on August 27th and September 17th.)
