O’Copy, Fla. (WFLA) – An Orlando-based attorney says a client who is a DACA recipient is in custody at Alligator Alcatraz.
NBC’s affiliate WESH reported that the Orange County Commission’s committee is considering signing a new agreement with ICE. The agreement allows corrections officers to transport undocumented immigrants who are not detained in the county jail to federal facilities, including Crocodile Alcatraz.

Attorney Josephine Arroyo said her client was one of the first to be moved from Orange County to a new detention facility. She said the 36-year-old came to the US from Mexico as a minor in 2001.
“He has a work permit. He does an amazing job. His employer has submitted a letter on his behalf. His family is here. His main language is English,” Arroyo told Wesh.
The man who Arroyo refused to identify by name was arrested after missing a court date when he drove on a suspended license and was taken into custody at an Orange County facility a few days before the transport.

Arroyo shared concerns about the situation inside the facility, and said her client said her sleep was constantly lit and constantly difficult to light.
“He said, first and foremost, mosquitoes were scary,” Arroyo said. “It was really bad. It was really hot. The air conditioner was intermittent in that it works and on Tuesday he finally got the shower. So he was there for four days without a shower. The toilet system wasn’t working very well.
A committee meeting will be held next Tuesday, with a new contract with ICE scheduled to be discussed.
