Old Hearth Bread Company’s excellent sourdough bread is still available at farmers’ markets from Winter Park to Windermere and beyond, but it’s been quite some time since Orlando’s first artisan bakery set up a permanent stall or storefront for fans to enjoy its freshness.
They’ll be back in May.
And residents of (and certainly those traveling to) Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village neighborhood and surrounding areas will now be able to regularly get their hands on batards, danishes, and one-of-a-kind sourdough boules.
The new Old Hearth Bread Company, located at 1231 N. Orange Ave. on Ivanhoe Row, will offer freshly baked goods delivered each morning from the main bakery in Casselberry. The bakery also supplies all types of food to hundreds of Central Florida restaurants, from mom-and-pop restaurants to large hotels.
The store expansion from husband-and-wife bakery owners Shannon and Janice Talty will slip into the space recently occupied by the pet-centric House of Sprut. Biscuit is a stone’s throw from where Backhaus bakers sold their own brand of Bavarian pastries a few years ago.
The people of Ivanhood and its neighboring regions should celebrate – the Talty family is the original.

“When we first opened 28 years ago, no one in Orlando was making natural bread,” founder Shannon Talty said in a news release. “There’s a culinary scene right now. Michelin knows what Orlando has to offer, and people appreciate crunchy ciabatta and flaky danishes. We’re just making it easy for people to get what they want.”

Plus, with black olive batard (my favorite!), chocolate chip cookies, fruit tarts, and more, it’s also an opportunity for innovation for the Talty family.
When purchasing a new low-volume artisan mixer, experimentation is the name of the game.
“We can try recipes for ancient grain breads and seasonal pastries, get in-store feedback, express our creative side, and see what fits with our region.”
Please aim to open in mid-May.
