PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WFLA) – News of Buc-EE’s proposed Buc-EE location in southwest Florida has residents dreaming of defeating the Beaver Nuggets and using “the cleanest toilet in America,” but not everyone is excited by the idea.
The vast gas station and convenience store were built from I-75 in Charlotte County and has been pending local authorization.

Residents of the nearby Harbor Heights community told NBC’s affiliate WBBH that the proposed development was not suitable for the neighborhood.
“I have nothing against Buc-ee, but I just don’t belong there,” Rebecca Scholl said.
“This is not just a place. It’s not a land for that. I’m sure southwest Florida would welcome Buc-ee,” said neighbor Dolema Doolittle.
Shoal said the proposed development would be within the coastal high hazard area and the flood plains. Some neighbors fear that developing the land will make flooding even worse than what we saw from last year’s hurricanes.
Some people worry that construction will invade important wildlife habitats.
“This proposed Buc-ee will either be adjacent to or soon to what locals call the Bayou. It’s a nursery for small rocks and other fish.”
The proposed development sparked concerns from some and excitement from others, but it would go a long way from what it was.
“They’re actually broken and we’re eating beaver nuggets, that’s still a potential project,” Planning and Zoning’s official Sean Cullinan told WBBH last month.
Potential Buc-EE faces hurdles Tuesday when county boards meet to discuss the proposal.
