ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – Nikki Fried was re-elected as chair of the Florida Democratic Party on Saturday.
Fried, who was first elected chair in 2023, received more than three-quarters of the vote from the party’s executive committee over Sen. Audrey Gibson of Jacksonville. Fried will serve an additional four years in that role.
She held the statewide office as agriculture commissioner from 2019 to 2023 and was the last Democrat to unsuccessfully run for governor in 2022.
The GOP also has a decisive lead over Democrats in voter registration, according to the Secretary of State’s office. Freed said in a news release that the party’s rebuilding will begin at the local level.
“Over the next four years, Florida Democrats will continue to organize, mobilize and hold Republicans accountable,” Fried said. “We will focus on winning local races, getting state legislators to pass policies that support hard-working Floridians, and standing up to Republicans in Washington who want to take away extreme policies from Florida across the country.”

Fried’s pick as party chair “is the only statewide election that Florida Democrats can win for a very long time,” former governor Sen. Rick Scott said on the X social media platform.
Democrats were also selecting other party officials and members of the Democratic National Committee at Saturday’s meeting.
