New Disney Cruise Line Ship Gets Water in 1st Piece – Orlando Sentinel

Disney Cruise Line’s new ship Disney Destiny hit the first floating construction milestone ahead of this year’s delivery.

The third Wish class ship is a sister ship to both Disney Wish and Disney Treasure, both of which are sailing from Port Canaveral. However, Disney Destiny can live in DCL’s second Port Everglades home in Florida.

According to an update from Disney Parks blog, the ship under construction at the Meyerwelft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany received a “float-up” last week.

The dry dock where the ship was assembled was filled with water from the EMS River.

“The ship was then led to another location in the hall, where the team begins testing various systems, including the main engine,” reads the Post.

Work can continue in the interior space of the ship while it is floating. This includes an atrium that includes a “Lion King” themed dinner theater space, a “Black Panther” statue, an “incredible” themed sweets shop, and an adult-only lounge paying homage to “101 Dalmean” Cruela Devil.”

Once completed, the ship leaves the shipyard and makes a 20-mile river trip to Emscheven, Holland. After that, he will go to a sea trial in the North Sea this fall.

The 144,000-person Groston, 4,000-seater vessel began voyages from the Port Everglades in November 2025, followed by the first season of a four- and five-night voyage to the Bahamas and the Western Caribbean.

This is the seventh ship in the DCL fleet and is expected to welcome a Singapore-bound Disney adventure by the end of the year.

The fleet is set to grow to up to 13 ships by 2031, including new class ships.
