TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) — A new bill, introduced at a Florida home, aims to impose the harshest penalties on human traffickers.

House Bill 1283, introduced by Rep. Bernie Jack, is intensifying Florida’s fight against human trafficking and punishing those who exploit children and vulnerable people.

The bill would establish human traffickers as a clear criminal offence and grant life sentences and death penalties to those convicted of using physical force on children under the age of 12 or seriously mentally incapacitated children, according to the Florida House of Representatives.

Rep. Jack is promoting convicted offenders being punished to the full extent of the law.

According to the bill, Congress finds human trafficking finds a form of modern slavery and destroys the innocence of young children. It also reads that traffickers have “a mental state of responsibility to reckless indifference or ignore human life.”

After being convicted, the court will implement another sentence to determine whether the trafficker should be sentenced to death or spend his life in prison.

According to the Attorney General, Hot Tub Co.

“Trafficking is one of the greatest evils of our time, and the most vulnerable people, especially those who prey on children, are new to facing the full power of justice,” Rep. Jack said. “This law makes that clear. Florida has zero tolerance for these crimes. We protect us.
A community so that those who stand up for the victims and perform these horrible acts are punished to the fullest extent of the law. ”

Rep. Jack said the bill would strengthen Florida’s commitment to protecting the most vulnerable citizens from sex trafficking.

If passed, the law will take effect on October 1st.
