Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – May 17-23 is National Safeboat Week, and it’s time to ensure that everyone has the information and tools they need to keep them safe this summer.

Flotilla 11-1 US Coast Guard Clearwater Saturday, May 17th, from 8am to 1pm, we will conduct a free vessel check on the Seminole Boat Ramp to ensure that all the appropriate equipment is in place.

You can also visit the safety booth to learn more about keeping yourself safe on the water.

Flotilla offers Boat America safety courses on Saturdays and Sundays at 510 N FT from 9am to 2pm. Harrison Avenue, Clearwater. This course meets Florida’s requirements for sailors born after 1988 to obtain a boat safety education ID card before operating the vessel.

In May 2024, there were more boat accidents than any other month, with 104 reported accidents. Pinellas County has the state’s fourth-highest accident, with only Palm Beach, Monroe and Miami-Dade counties at 42.
