Transport Canada has issued various vehicle recall notifications over the past week, citing safety issues such as broken door latches and potential battery fires.
More than a dozen vehicle brands have been recalled for either one of the newly identified issues or for a second repair to address an ongoing issue.
Mercedes-Benz
According to an updated recall notice issued by the Department of Transport Canada, vans have been recalled, including models from 2016 to 2019 to 2019 to 2019 to 2019 to 2019 to 2019 to 2019.
Certain vehicles have a total axle weight rating that is greater than the maximum load capacity allowed on the tire, which could lead to tire overload, a March 13 notice said.
“Difficult to handle or tire failure can lead to loss of control and increase the risk of crashes,” the notice states.
The following models will be affected in the 2024 and 2025 model years: Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class.
Ford
According to Transport Canada, the front axle shaft may not be properly installed on certain 2021 and 2022 Ford EcoSport SUVs, and the recall only affects vehicles with a six-speed automatic transmission.
“If the vehicle is parked and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle may roll,” the notification says. “Loss of power to the wheels can increase the risk of crashes.”
Ford recommends vehicle owners adjust their maximum charging settings to 80% until necessary repairs are completed, the notification said.
Only trucks with a professional trailer hitch assist feature will be affected by the recall.
Owners will be notified by mail to transport the truck to the dealer for necessary updates.
Audi and Volkswagen
More than 2,000 Audi E-Tron vehicles manufactured between 2019 and 2022 have been recalled. This is because high voltage batteries can overheat and create a fire risk.
Audi recommends setting the maximum charging setting for your vehicle to 80% until the final recall repair is complete.
Land Rover
Canada Transport has issued two recalls of over 9,000 Range Rover and Range Rover Sports cars due to potential issues with the door not latching tightly. The problem is that they say the door can be opened while driving.
Owners will be notified by mail to bring the vehicle to the nearest dealer for repairs.
General Motors
Over 3,400 Cadillac and Chevrolet models have been recalled by General Motors as permeation control valves may deteriorate and pressure may be lost over time.
The owner will receive notification from General Motors about mail recalls and will instruct the dealer to update the transmission control module software.
BMW
A recall has been issued for 27 BMW X3 SUVs due to connectivity issues between the 48V battery and the starter generator. This issue affects 2025 models equipped with a 2.0L engine.
BMW will send notifications to vehicle owners via mail and advise authorized dealers to inspect and tighten the nuts in the vehicle as needed, the notification states. The dealer also notes that if necessary, replace the 48V battery cable or starter generator.
