TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Her mother, Manatee and her calves are on their way to recover at a critical care center in Zutampa after months of being locked up in a canal.
Last week, a rescue team of over 10 organizations found the pair last week at Whaka Union spillway in the island’s port.

Biologists believe manatees accessed the six-mile canal during rainfall last year, but believe they could not swim when the water level fell.
According to NBC affiliate WBBH, a wildlife biologist with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was the first to find the upper calf miles. Since then, more reports have started to flood as neighbors in the island’s port community were attracted attention.
The rescuer said her mother was weak, but her cow looked in good condition despite months of her calves stuck.
After finding the manatee, the crew boarded the boat and took them to David A. Strass Junior Manatee Critical Care Center for “a much-needed rehabilitation.”
“I am grateful to work with such an impressive rescue team. Zootampa wrote in a social media post about rescue.
