Meta launches Facebook Marketplace Holiday Shop to focus on budget-friendly gifts

Americans are expected to spend less this holiday season as inflation rises and economic concerns grow. To address these concerns, Meta is introducing the Facebook Marketplace Holiday Shop. It’s a virtual shopping experience aimed at making finding unique and affordable gifts a little easier for shoppers. In the Shop, users can find gifts hand-picked by real people from the marketplace’s popular categories like fashion, collectibles, electronics, and more.

The Holiday Shop is designed around the way users already use the marketplace. That means you can browse local listings, compare prices, and find new, used, specialty items, and more that aren’t available at traditional retailers. This entire experience is aimed at reducing the amount of time users spend searching for the right items so they can spend more quality time with friends and family during the holidays. You can find your store by opening the Marketplace, tapping the search icon, and typing “holiday store.”

In addition to traditional filters such as price, category, and distance, the shop will include new seasonal categories, which tend to be more popular during the holiday season. Popular models of electronics, standout looks, seasonal fashion essentials, and limited edition or hard-to-find collectibles are examples of hot seasonal lists. Users can still compare products between listings, message sellers to see their ratings, and even arrange for local pickup.

The Creator Collection not only serves as holiday gift inspiration, but also to make last-minute shopping more efficient. Facebook Marketplace has become a haven for last-minute shoppers, and Holiday Shoppe is building on this trend by making thoughtful gift searches easier while eliminating the need to pay a premium for rush shipping. At the same time, second-hand gifts are becoming increasingly popular among shoppers as prices continue to rise this year.

Young shoppers are making Facebook Marketplace popular. One in four young Facebook users in the U.S. and Canada visit Marketplace every day, and more than 490 million shoppers of all ages typically buy something on Facebook Marketplace each month. As holiday gift-giving participation remains high, Facebook Marketplace’s cost-saving benefits are making it even more popular. At the same time, the push to shop local speaks to an increased strategy for where consumers spend their gift money.

Meta recommends using Facebook Marketplace’s built-in checkout to enable purchase protection for eligible orders, if available. The company also recommends completing purchases through Facebook Marketplace and not sharing unnecessary personal data. Users can report suspicious listings and stop contacting sellers if something doesn’t feel right. The Federal Trade Commission is urging consumers to investigate merchants and avoid offers that require gift cards, wire transfers, payment apps, or virtual currency as a payment method.

Marketplaces have become known for finding deals near you. The Holiday Shop enhances this familiar experience by reducing the need to travel to crowded stores to select items during the busiest shopping time of the year. Available on Facebook Marketplace, it will continue to be updated throughout the season as trends and ideas evolve.
