Melbourne – A 19-year-old Melbourne man was charged with manslaughter last month in the death of his father after the two argued over a plate of food, police say.
Julien Gabriel Welch-Beddoe was imprisoned Wednesday in connection with the January 19 death of her 46-year-old father, Francis Welch, court records show. The incident was the first reported murder in Brevard County this year.

Melbourne police said the incident took place at the home of a pair at 566 Sacre Coeur Drive. Welch Beddo tried to make a plate of food when his father was drinking when he got up from the couch and said he wasn’t worth the food because he wasn’t working, police said I said.
Welch Beddo then returned to the bedroom with food. His father pushed him after him, police said. The two then struggled when their son attacked his father with his ribs, court records show as his father hugged him in a chokehold.
Police said his father’s fiancé intervened. My father returned to the couch, but after five minutes he stopped responding. He was taken to Orlando Health Melbourne Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, court records show.
The prosecutor’s office reported that Welch had three ribs and three tear spleens as a result of his fight with his son.
Welch Bedau was arrested Wednesday and booked at the Brevard County Jail complex in Sharp. He was held there on $50,000 bail Sunday, prison records show. There is no court date set.
