BRAENTON, Fla. (WFLA) – Manatee County and the city of Mulberry have joined a list of 25 Florida municipalities suing state over Senate Bill 180.

“I think the numbers (in the jurisdiction) will only explode and grow,” said Jamie Cole, the lawyer at the forefront of the case.

Clearwater Council votes to enter the evaluation stage of the study, possibly dropping Duke energy

The Land Use Act is described as a disaster bill and will help residents quickly rebuild after a hurricane without government interference. The SB180 will prevent all local land development regulations for three years and stop local governments from adopting “restrictive or burdensome” changes.

Manatee County Commissioners, among other things, believe it will support the developer and take away local government power.

“We don’t want the lawsuit to be considered hostile or hostile. It’s not a good law, and there’s no need to change the good law so that we can serve people,” said Commissioner Carol Anne Feltz earlier this month.

On September 2nd, the Manatee County commissioner voted 6-1 to participate in a lawsuit featuring areas in the state from Homestead to Orlando to Naples.

Only Commissioner Mike Lahn opposed the plan.

“We’re plunging in a pretty good bear here. We already feel that spending has been withdrawn or rejected. The Desoto Bridge money was pushed out in 2032.

The suit is in its early stages. They call SB180 an “unconstitutional” law and call it completely to be removed.
