SANTA ROSA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — A fugitive from Fairfax County, Virginia, was arrested Thursday morning in Santa Rosa Beach, the Walton County Sheriff’s Office said.

Durbin Flores Caballeros, 20, had hoped to attack the mother of a child in Virginia and abandon the 13-day-old toddler in the snow, deputies said.

On February 20th, deputies received information that Caballeros had fled from Virginia to Florida.

During an investigation by the Fairfax County Police Department, it was discovered that Caballeros assaulted and strangled the victim.

A Lakeland woman was charged when she called to the insurance company and said “delay, denial, retired”

After the fight, Caballeros escapes the scene with the toddler.

According to deputies, a good Samaritan found a toddler left in a snowy mountain. The victim involved in the attack was seriously injured.

On February 20, deputies arrested Caballeros, who had left the apartment around 11am after confirming that he was a passenger in the vehicle and a felony traffic stop had been carried out.

Caballeros is transported and booked to the Walton County Jail, where he is waiting to be handed over to Virginia.

According to deputies, Caballeros faces malicious injuries, strangulation, two counts of child danger, family attacks and batteries, petite theft, and claims for emergency protection orders. All charges follow Virginia law.
