Flagler County (WFLA) – Florida (WFLA) – A man has been arrested for possession of DUI and drugs after an MP discovered he died behind the driver’s seat, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 18, deputies responded to a report of a man who died behind the wheels of a car in a subway car park on the Palm Coast. The man was identified as 37-year-old John Perez.

Body camera video shows the lieutenant approaching him, confirming whether Perez has a medical episode.
“We checked out you and called you to make sure you were OK. What’s going on today?”
Perez said he was having a bad day. The adjutant asked him if he remembered how he reached the subway parking lot.
“Before I got to Dunkin, I felt like a really light head so I stopped by the subway and asked to grab him, and I asked them for water, and I was back in the car, and here I hadn’t followed Dunkin yet,” Perez said.

Deputies then conducted an investigation into the DUI, which led to his arrest.
While searching for Perez’s car, deputies found multiple needles in the back seat. For example, syringes contained brown liquids, which were later identified as heroin.
Perez told officials he had no drugs or weapons. After a prison search, a white pill, identified as Lorazepam, was found in his socks.
“By bringing drugs or illegal things to the Green Roof Inn, you’ll win another felony arrest on top of the charges that put you in prison in the first place,” Sheriff Rick Staley said. “Unfortunately for this guy, he either lied to his agent or tried to forget about his sock pills. It’s not acceptable to bring this into prison, regardless of the reason, and our detainees always find them.”
Perez was charged with DUI, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, introduction of drugs and possession of harmful new legendary drugs without a prescription, according to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office.
Perez is taking place on a $4,500 bond.
